About Dr. Lisa Lewis

Psychotherapy

I am a licensed psychologist with a strength-based, solution-focused approach and an active, collaborative style. I help clients with various mental health concerns, as well as those with specific goals in personal development, career advancement, fitness, or athletics. Since beginning my practice in 2003, I have worked with a diverse range of concerns and populations. I often work with individuals facing mental health concerns, particularly those struggling with relationships, depression, anxiety, or addiction.

Addiction Counseling

As a Certified Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselor (CADC-II), I assist people in recovery from addiction, as well as those affected by the addiction of a friend, partner, or family member. I am committed to understanding and being sensitive to differences in culture, ethnicity, spirituality, and sexuality, as I believe these factors are central to an individual’s experiences and overall happiness.

Sport Psychology

I hold a doctoral degree in counseling and sports psychology and a master’s degree in clinical counseling psychology. My education, combined with a lifelong passion for wellness and fitness, informs my approach to helping clients develop a stronger, healthier mind and body. In addition to my clinical specialties, I enjoy working with athletes and professionals with an athletic mindset who aim to enhance their performance or achieve specific goals. I also offer support to athletes facing mental health challenges that may be interfering with their performance.

Performance Coaching

Some of my clients refer to our work together as traditional psychotherapy, while others describe it as “performance coaching,” “mental skills coaching,” or simply “consultation.” Each client approaches our sessions with a specific issue in mind. Some focus on addressing negative thoughts, feelings, behaviors, or relationships, while others concentrate on building their strengths and enhancing their lives.

Continuing Education

In addition to the above services, I also provide continuing education to health and fitness professionals. Psych Skills for Fitness Pros are courses specifically designed for coaches and practitioners who aim to help their clients change themselves, for the better. Core topics of Psych Skills include helping your clients improve by understanding motivation and behavior change, as well as helping you improve as a coach by understanding your strengths and unique psychology. To find out more about the Psych Skills courses and enroll, go to my Products page.

I love to present at workshops, seminars, and conferences, and would love to come to yours! Please get in touch with me if you’d like to discuss me working with you, your staff, or presenting at your event.

Due to my years of experience in college counseling centers, I often work with young adults. My work with college and graduate school students most often focuses on questions concerning personal development, professional identity, and long-term goals in both those areas.

I have served as part time faculty at Northeastern University, teaching classes including developmental psychology and abnormal psychology. I have also taught at Wheelock College and Salem State University, teaching undergraduate courses including developmental psychology, sport psychology, and exercise psychology.
